EMDR Meets Family Therapy

Speaker: Michael Keller, LCSW

Michael Keller,  LCSW,  comes to us from a distinguished career of almost 30 years at the Menninger Clinic, some of which was spent as the chief social worker of their Trauma Recovery Program.  His treatment of survivors of complex trauma has led to a primary specialty that integrates psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, DBT, attachment theory and family therapy in his EMDR therapy.  Pre-registration required

His presentation will not only give us an overview of EMDR and human adaptive information processing system, but will explain both the theoretical and clinical links between EMDR and family therapy.  The links he will present on include

  1. Genogram and Memory Network Maps
  2. Intergenerational Attachment Vulnerabilities and Repair
  3. Epigenetic  Transmission of Vulnerability and Strength
  4. Internal Family Systems Therapy and EMDR Ego State Therapy and
  5. Resource Development and Traumatic Memory Processing with Individuals, Families and Groups.

In addition to these learning  objectives he will impart how EMDR can serve as a primary and/or adjunctive approach in family therapy. Mr. Keller is an Approved Consultant with the EMDR International Association.  He is now a senior EMDR Trainer with the Trauma Recovery Humanitarian Assistance Program.  He conducts EMDR trainings across the U.S., and was their project manager for EMDR training programs in Indonesia and Kenya.  He lives in Winfield,  Kansas.

The Digging Deeper Discussion non-hosted lunch will be facilitated by Dana Davis, LMFT, who specializes in couples, EMDR, life transitions/mid-life issues, parenting and trauma and practices in Cardiff.  She has served as past vice president and professional development chair for SDNC-CAMFT.  This event will be at Sammy's Woodfired Pizza, Carlsbad, 11:30 to 1:00.  The group is capped at eight people.
